What to know about hot yoga in San Diego
The free trial nobody advertises: Yoga Box gives new students three days, completely free, at any of its six locations. No other studio in San Diego comes close — the next best entries are Indie Yoga's $39 intro month and Modo's $45 for two weeks. If you are testing whether hot yoga is for you, start there and spend nothing.
Yoga Box has no showers. Anywhere. Not at any of the six locations. In a beach city, at a chain whose HOT YB class runs to 100°F, that is the single most important thing to know before you book the 7am. You also have to bring your own towel — there is no rental, only $2 mats.
CorePower does not publish room temperatures. Not at any of its nine San Diego studios. Local reviewers split hard on this: some describe rooms cranked past 100°F with the humidifier running, others complain the doors get opened and the fans come on mid-class. It varies by location and by teacher, and you cannot check in advance. North Park is the one regulars name as the hottest.
Parking decides more than you think. CorePower Pacific Beach has five spaces, on Garnet Avenue, and locks the door at class start with no grace period — that combination produces the angriest reviews of any studio in this city. Modo, CorePower North Park and CorePower Del Mar Highlands have free lots. CorePower Mission Valley lets you park at the door. YogaFuzn has underground parking with an access code.
Doors lock at class start at Modo, Indie, Redflo, YogaFuzn, Yoga Box (all six) and CorePower. This is close to universal in San Diego and it is enforced, so build in a buffer.
New to heat? Start at 80–90°F. Redflo's back rows, Tranquil Tree's 80–85°F Tranquil Flow, Reach Yoga's 85–95°F infrared room, or Indie's Yin. Walking into a 105°F Bikram sequence as your first hot class is how people decide they hate hot yoga.
Two studios that come up in searches are not hot yoga. Riffs Yoga Studios in Bird Rock runs no heated classes despite its size and reputation. SALTVAULT is hot Pilates only, with no yoga at all.
